BOE OLED panel officially passed Apple iPhone 14 certification
According to the upstream and downstream information of the industry chain, last week, Chinese panel maker BOE's AMOLED panel has passed Apple's iPhone 14 certification.
Last Thursday, BOE received a notice from Apple about the certification of iPhone 14 AMOLED panels, which will be put into mass production earlier in July and start shipping in volume in September. This certification pass is earlier than the previous iPhone 12 and 13 series dates in that year.
BOE had shipped 6.1-inch panels for iPhone 12 in December 2020 and iPhone 13 in October 2021. Judging from the past shipping history, it is expected that in the year of certification, that is, 2022, the iPhone 14 direction of AMOLED panels shipped at least 5 million pieces.
Apple may be released on September 13 iPhone 14 series will have four models, namely iPhone 14, 14 Max (also may be Plus), 14 Pro and 14 Max Pro. Among them, BOE will supply the iPhone 14 standard model of 6.1-inch LTPSOLED panel. Apple iPhone 14 AMOLED panel information

In 2022, Apple will purchase a total of about 90 million+ flexible AMOLED panels for iPhone 14, with Samsung Display (SDC) supplying 60 million, LGD supplying 25 million, and BOE supplying more than 5 million, according to industry estimates.
Due to the uncertainty of the global economy, Apple may be reducing the production plan of iPhone. 2022, together with the old iPhone 12 and 13 models already on the market, Apple will purchase about 210 million flexible AMOLED panels from Samsung Display, LGD and BOE, the volume structure of the three suppliers is about 65 : 24 : 11.
According to RUNTO data, in 2021, BOE shipped more than 16 million OLED cell phone panels to Apple, and the share of OLED iPhone in Apple has reached about 10%. 2022, due to the supply shortage of display driver chips, BOE's shipments to iPhone 13 were affected. In the first half of the year, BOE shipped about 9.5 million AMOLED panels to Apple, a 66% year-over-year increase despite lower than expected. According to the current supply pattern forecast, for the whole year, BOE's AMOLED panel shipments to Apple will increase by about 40%.
In addition, Chinese AMOLED panel makers Huaxing Optoelectronics (CSOT) and Visionox (Visionox) are also actively sending samples to Apple.
The next target is LTPO OLED product development
Globally, consumer electronics are under increasing inflationary pressure and overall purchasing demand continues to be sluggish, but consumers who are less price sensitive are still willing to choose to buy higher-end iPhone models.
Therefore, BOE aims to complete the development of Apple-oriented LTPO OLED products by 2022.
The LTPO OLED panel for iPhone 13 was exclusively supplied by Samsung Display, and Samsung will continue to maintain its technological and production advantages in 2022. But Apple wants to reduce its dependence on Samsung and does not want the proportion to increase further instead.
In this year's iPhone 14 series, Samsung Display will supply 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch LTPO products. According to the plan, LGD will also supply 6.7-inch LTPO panel, which will be the first time LGD to Apple batch supply LTPO backplane AMOLED flexible panel. According to the industry chain upstream and downstream information, LGD's LTPO OLED panel certification progress has been delayed; and Samsung display capacity is also limited.
Last year, BOE OLED panel shipments exceeded 60 million pieces, an increase of 65% According to RUNTO data, in 2021, BOE flexible OLED panel shipments exceeded 60 million pieces, an increase of more than 65% year-on-year. Among them, OLED panels for smartphones shipped about 55 million pieces.
At the end of last year, BOE has achieved OLED panel import for almost all mainstream cell phone brands in the world, including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Glory.
On July 4, Huawei held a new conference and released its nova10 Pro flagship product. Its use of BOE 6.78-inch ring screen flexible OLED panel, can be adapted to multi-frequency refresh rate mode, the highest compatible with 120Hz variable speed high brush, while with 300Hz touch screen sampling rate. In this panel, BOE reduces the harm of blue light by relocating the peak position of harmful blue light in the OLED spectrum, thus realizing the advantage of flexible OLED panels for healthy eye protection.
